Deepika Padukone describes her upcoming film Piku as a quirky take of a father-daughter relationship. The film takes a close look into the world of Piku, the relationship she shares with the people around her and how she multitasks her way through life.
“For most women their father is their idol, but the relationship I have with my father is a little different from what Piku shares with her father in the film… because they have such different personalities. So, as a daughter Piku has to handle Amitji’s character a little differently — but the love and emotion is all the same,” says Deepika.
It was also her first time working with Irrfan Khan and Deepika admittedly had a preconceived notion that he was a strict and serious actor. But he turned out to be quite the opposite.
“He was very friendly and had a good sense of humour but the challenge for me was to get to know him personally because I had never met him before this film, so I needed to know him to be able to work with him,” she adds.
Also, the experience of working on the film was extremely pleasant and seamless. Deepika says, “The way the film has been written, we just had to live in the moment and enjoy the experience. It was very relatable because it was like we were going about living our everyday lives. The set felt like our homes and sometimes we even forgot that there was a camera rolling.”
The last couple of years have been quite exciting for Deepika and her career and she says that she has been truly enjoying her work. She feels that her recent success also gives her the confidence to go out and experiment, to take risks, as there also has been a sudden spurt of great scripts and parts that are now being written for women in Bollywood.
