As a design strategist, Sudhir Bhatia of bRnD Studio is driven by the need to constantly innovate. In a career spanning more than two decades,he has helped develop mobile computers and wearable technology, including the InfoPen, a pen-based barcode scanner. He is also the originator of the FutureCast tool which Sudhir describes as “a blend of visualised thinking with radical collaboration”. A mechanical engineer from the University of Rochester, it was his stint in the US that refined these creative instincts. “I had the liberty to also take up Fine Arts. Imagine being able to study drawing, painting and sculpture with mechanics.”

He has now designed a panoply of cards, which can be mounted on a wall to illustrate the advances in mobile telephony from the 1940s to 2014.  The installation serves the dual purpose of providing both an academic reference as well as an instrument for planning and the device has already been licensed to Microsoft and Blackberry. “The idea was to create a chronology that presents insights into not just the object’s history but also the company strategies, technology trends and their relationship to each other.  With this tool, we can see that many of the mainstream technology trends of today had their first avatars 10-20 years before they became mainstream.”
