Shabana Azmi to play Sonam Kapoor's mother in Neerja Bhanot biopic

Mumbai: Shabana Azmi has been roped in to play Sonam Kapoor’s mother in the biopic ‘Neerja’, according to reports. Sonam will be essaying the role of Neerja Bhanot, the brave air hostess who lost her life saving hundreds of passengers on the 1986 hijacked Pan Am flight in Karachi.

In 2014 Shabana Azmi spoke a few words about the braveheart while giving the 2013 Neerja Bhanot Award to Rashmi Anand, a victim of domestic violence. She said, “What would Neerja have been thinking of when she opened the door of the plane and, inspite of the bullets flying all round her and hand grenades exploding, she decided not to jump out and run away but instead do her duty and help the passengers escape?”

It will be interesting to see Sonam take on the role of the late airhostess
