New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) is likely to announce new parameters for quality of service for telecom operators in a month’s time to tackle call dropping and other problems being faced by customers, its chairman, Rahul Khullar said on Wednesday.“Call drops problem is seen more in metros and less in smaller towns. If towers in places like Noida are switched off then how are you going to have wireless communication.
This is what we have also mentioned in our broadband paper,” Mr Khullar said.Telecom secretary Rakesh Garg on Monday pulled up operators, asking them to immediately address grievances and improve network. Mr Khullar pointed out that deeper broadband penetration was needed to ensure success of Jan Dhan scheme and warned that financial inclusion will otherwise remain a “pipe dream” and merely opening bank accounts will not serve the purpose. He said financial inclusion through IT and mobiles will remain a “pipe dream unless broadband proliferation” takes place across the country, as recommended by Trai to the government.”
