Nellore: The style of functioning of urban development minister, Dr P. Narayana, has peeved the TD leaders and cadres in Nellore district, who complain that he is hardly accessible to them.
They allege that the minister barely shows up at the party office and his tour schedules are not communicated to the party office. Sources in the party said that his visits to Udayagiri, Kavali and Nellore rural without intimating the party in-charges resulted in the latter bringing the issue to the notice of party bigwigs at the state headquarters.
Besides, the party leaders strongly suspect the minister’s role behind denying an MLC ticket to Nellore district unit president Beeda Ravichandra at the last minute. Not just party people, government officers too are discontent over the minister’s choosing odd hours like late nights or wee hours for review meetings via teleconferences. As a result some of them are carrying files back home.
It is believed that the first IAS officer, heading Nellore Municipal Corporation, Mr K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu was transferred from Nello-re recently for not att-ending a midnight mee-ting of the minister. “It seems he cultivated the habit of surprise checks and midnight meetings being chairman of medical and educational institutes. Unfortunately, he applies the same techniques while dealing with officials. The approach can backfire at any time,” a party leader said.
Meanwhile, a close follower of the minister felt the need to laud him for working almost round-the-clock. “As a minister he should take care of 110 civic bodies apart from the capital, yet he has been sparing time for Nellore. His reviews with ground level irrigation officials between January and March saved crops in across 8.50 lakh acre. His aim is to make the party people-friendly by doing some constructive work and not politics,” the follower asserted.
On the issue of the MLC ticket being den-ied to Beeda Ravichan-dra, he said that the minister openly said long back that the party is no mood to give any po-st to anyone in Nellore for the next three years.
