Sex row murderer who ate victim's heart jailed in S.Africa
The convict claimed that the woman "had coerced him to commit the murder"
Cape Town: A murderer who ate his victim's heart with a knife and fork after a row over sex was jailed for 18 years in South Africa on Wednesday.
Zimbabwean Andrew Chimboza, 35, pleaded guilty to stabbing 62-year-old Mbuyiselo Manona to death at the home of Manona's lover in Cape Town's Gugulethu township in June last year.
Manona had reportedly accused Chimboza of having sex with the woman, News24 reported. A psychiatrist told the Western Cape High Court that Chimboza claimed that the woman "had coerced him to commit the murder".
"His memory of the period of the offence was good but he declined to explain why he had sliced up the heart and was found eating it," Tuviah Zabow said.
Police were called to the gruesome scene by frantic neighbours, spokesman Frederick van Wyk said at the time of Chimboza's arrest. "On the scene they found a suspect, a Zimbabwean national, busy eating the heart of a human with a knife and fork," he said.
Judge Ashley Binns-Ward said that despite Chimboza's relatively clean record, the brutality of the assault and the absence of remorse called for a sentence of 18 years in jail.
