Hyderabad: Colonies need to provide a small room for a library and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, after inspection, will sanction a grant of '2 lakh at the circle level with two computers, newspapers, magazines, furniture and other reading material.

The corporation will also give Rs 2,500 per month for the maintenance of the e-libraries while the RWA will maintain the same.

On April 15, the civic body started inviting RWAs to identify space within the colonies that could be transformed into e-libraries, across all the 18 circles, and so far 200 parties have shown interest.

The GHMC’s goal is to develop 1,000 e-libraries under its jurisdiction. Commissioner and special officer Somesh Kumar said, “The GHMC requires a 20x15 room; once the RWAs submit the applications, the Urban Community Development wing of GHMC will inspect the rooms to check facilities like power, infrastructure etc. If the room is approved by the UCD team, the concerned deputy project director will sanction Rs 2 lakh (as a one time grant), and GHMC will also pay Rs 2500 per month towards maintenance.”

The Corporation will also provide racks for display of books, tables and chairs, two computers with Internet connectivity, magazines and 10 types of newspapers in various languages based on the community’s demand.

The concerned deputy commissioner of the circle will conduct circle-level review meetings involving the circle project officers, RWAs and identify suitable community halls for establishment of the e-libraries with regular supply of reading material. Concerned RWAs should consult the circle office and submit applications for inspection.
