Beijing: A Canadian tourist who accidentally knocked over a Chinese woman at the Great Wall of China, which later resulted in her death, has agreed to £63,000 in compensation to the victim’s family, according to the Daily Mail.

Cui Hongfang, 73, died in front of her family and other tourists after she struck her head in a tragic accident, the police reported. Hongfang, hailed from Heilongjiang Province in north-eastern China.

As reported, the victim’s husband said that the tourist was rushing down a steep set of steps on the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall when she bumped into his wife.

Hongfang fell down the steps and died shortly after she struck her head and lost consciousness.

The victims family filed a lawsuit against the tourist who has been identified as Debra Fortin.  After police announced that they would not be filing any criminal charges against Debra for the April 8 incident, the family demanded that she be prevented from leaving China.

After two days of pre-trial mediation at a court in Beijing, the two sides agreed on a compensation amount of £63,000 or USD$96,000 to be delivered in 15 days, The Beijing News and Shanghai Daily reported.
