Bengaluru: CID sleuths rescue 34 child labourers

BENGALURU: The officials of the Anti Human-Trafficking Unit in the CID have rescued 34 child labourers who were made to work in an agro industry in Kannalli near Sheegehalli Cross in Tavarekere police station limits in Ramanagar.

In the raid conducted on Thursday morning, 12 boys, 19 girls and three children below 14 years of age were rescued. Two were arrested by the police. According to the CID sleuths, there was information that many minors were forced to work in Ballad Agro Industries, where herbal products are produced.

Based on the information, the unit was raided on Thursday morning. There were around 200 employees in the industry and out of them 34 were minors. “All the 34 children were rescued and subjected to tests at hospital to determine their age.

Jirad, the contractor who was bringing the child labourers, and Gopalakrishna Kamat, the HR manager, were arrested in this connection,” the police added. Tavarekere police have registered a case under the provisions of Juvenile Justice Act and Child Labour laws. Further investigations are on.
