Rahul Gandhi visits Nepal embassy, pays tribute to quake victims
He signed on the visitor's register and had a word with the officials
New Delhi: Expressing solidarity with the people of quake-hit Nepal, Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited its embassy here to pay tributes to the victims and voiced hope that the country's unconquerable spirit will rise above the present despair and inspire the world.
The Congress Vice President met Nepalese Ambassador Deepak Kumar Upadhyay and conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives while reiterating his personal, the party's and the nation's support to the people there.
"Over the last week the world has watched in horror as the true scale of the tragedy in Nepal unfolded before us. Some wounds will never heal, but as Nepal begins the hard task of rebuilding each broken life and broken buildings, the people of India stand with you in strength and solidarity," Gandhi wrote in the condolence book at the embassy.
He said that "in the years to come we will see a stronger, more prosperous, ever beautiful Nepal, whose unconquerable spirit will rise above the present despair and inspire the world".
The Himalayan country was devastated by a powerful earthquake last week which has left over 6,000 people dead and at least 11,000 injured.
"Gandhi went to the Nepal embassy to pay tributes to those who died in the massive tragedy," a Congress leader said.
India has played a key role in relief and rescue work in Nepal in the aftermath of the disaster. The quake has also affected parts of India, particularly bordering Bihar, and has claimed the lives of over 70 people.
