Set up CCTVs at exam centres: Governor P Sathasivam

Thiruvananthapuram: The meeting of the chancellor's council has directed the universities to install  CCTV cameras in all examination halls immediately.

The meeting  convened by Governor P. Sathasivam, who is also the chancellor of all universities, on Wednesday also stressed the need for improving transparency in the conduct of examinations, especially in self-financing colleges.

The Governor asked the vice-chancellors to closely monitor the progress of the programme.

He said  the state government had promised to provide Rs 5 crore yearly  for the annual chancellor's award.  The best vice-chancellor would be given Rs 5-crore incentive for development activities of the university.

The criteria for the award will be the infrastructure, research activities and innovative ideas initiated by the university. The money can be used for any infrastructure project.

Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb, who is also the pro- chancellor of the universities,  stressed the need for a uniform academic calendar and ensuring academic autonomy.

He also explained the government’s plan to develop an academic city in the country. The chancellor’s council has the vice-chancellors of all the 13 universities in the state as members.
