KANNUR: Thousands thronged to pay their final respects to the two young doctors—Dr Deepak Thomas and Dr A.S Irshad—who were killed in the devastating earthquake in Nepal.

The mortal remains of the doctors were brought from New Delhi to Bangalore and then taken to their homes by road on Thursday morning.

Deepak’s body was kept at his home at Munderi, Kelakam in Kannur before being taken to the cemetery at St George church, Kanichar. Adv Sunny Joseph MLS, Iritty Tahasildar K.G Raveendran among others attended the funeral. Thousands of people came to Deepak’s home and to the church.

Irshad’s mortal remains were buried at the Muhyuddin Juma masjid at Nellikunnu in Kasargod. The huge crowd ended up blocking the ambulance carrying the body of Irshad towards his house.

The police had to dupe the people by announcing that the body was being taken to the mosque directly instead of to the house because of the crowds.

But the body was taken to the house and then for the last rites. Local MLA N.A Nellikunnu, district collector P.S Mohammed Sageer among others were present.
