KARIMNAGAR: A 75-year-old man killed his son as he was unable bear the latter’s frequent demands for money. The son was hacked to death with an axe while sleeping at Veljipur village in Illanthakunta mandal on Thursday night. The killer, Sonaveni Lingaiah, surrendered before police on Friday.

Illanthakunta sub-inspector B. Ellaiah Goud said the deceased was identified as Sonaveni Balaiah, 45, a farmer and alcoholic. Sonaveni Lingaiah is a beneficiary of social security pension.

Lingaiah, in a fit of rage, killed his son as he was angry with Balaiah for assaulting him to give money for consuming alcohol. Lingaiah, in an inebriated condition, had thrashed his father on Thursday demanding money from his pension, the police said.

Initially, Lingaiah tried to mislead the police and villagers by stating that his son was killed by somebody. He admitted to hacking his son when the police raised doubts after inspecting the spot. Balaiah had a wife and two sons. Police registered a case and took the accused into custody.
