Islamic State fighter from Telangana dies in Syria
'He was attracted to the IS in London over the Internet' - State official
Hyderabad: A youth from Telangana who had died in Syria after joining the Islamic State had visited his hometown Mancherial in Adilabad district seven months ago to attend his sister’s marriage. Police is now probing 25-year-old Hateef Wasim’s local contacts and checking whether he had influenced any other youths and got them recruited to the terror organisation.
A senior Telangana official said, “He went to London to pursue his masters in November 2014. He got attracted to IS and went to Syria where he was killed in the war. We have no information how he died. His family was informed about the same. Our investigations found that he came to Mancherial seven months ago to attend his sister’s marriage. We are trying to find out who he met here.”
Hateef, son of Chandpasha, had done his BTech from Shadan College of Engineering in Hyderabad. “We have questioned his friends when he was a BTech student in Hyderabad. There were no terror activities nor had he spoken anything related to it. He was attracted to the IS in London over the Internet,” said an official.
