Vellore: The villagers of Palur, near here, are living in perpetual fear of a lurking leopard that killed 10 goats on Saturday night. According to sources, a leopard which stealthily crept into the village attacked about 40 goats belonging to Panneer, 45, on Saturday night.

It badly mauled 10 goats and when the animals shrieked in panic, Panneer and his neighbours rushed out to see the cause of trouble. Just as the people ran towards a shed where the goats were kept, the wild animal fled.

Later, police and forest officials who went to the village following Panneer’s complaint, established that the wild animal could have been a leopard. Already, the villagers have been coming under attack by elephants and the sudden violent incursion by leopard has left them shell-shocked.
