Rahul Gandhi might visit Osmania University
Sources said Gandhi could visit the campus on May 10 or 11 and may stay overnight
Hyderabad: Students of Osmania University conducted a rally on the campus demanding that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visit them during his tour of Telangana next week.
The students said that it was the Congress that had made Telangana a reality and it was time for Mr Rahul Gandhi to visit the university, which was the hotbed of the statehood agitation.
Leaders of the OU Joint Action Committee said students want to discuss with Mr Gandhi the issue of unemployment and inaction of the Telangana government over the one lakh jobs promised by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Speaking to the media, students complained that the Telangana government had not done anything for the students since the formation for the state, even though they had played a key role in the statehood struggle.
Students have written letters seeking Mr Gandhi’s visit to senior Congress leaders including Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Uttam Kumar Reddy and working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. Sources said Mr Gandhi could visit the campus on May 10 or 11 and may stay overnight.
