Delhi Police declares AAP MLA Jarnail Singh an absconder
Singh has been accused of assaulting an engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MLA Jarnail Singh, whose application for anticipatory bail in connection with an MCD official assault case was rejected today, has been declared an absconder by the Delhi Police.
Singh has been accused of assaulting an engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi told media here today that he hoped Singh would surrender soon, and if he did not, he would be arrested.
Last month, MCD junior engineer Azhar Mustafa said he had gone to the Krishna Park area in the locality to demolish an illegal construction when local residents obstructed him from carrying out his duty. Mustafa alleged that AAP leader Jarnail Singh and others prevented the MCD team from carrying out the demolition and thrashed him.
Mustafa claimed that Singh tore up the officially sanctioned demolition papers when they were shown to him, which forced him to file an FIR against the MLA at the Tilak Nagar police station.
Singh on the other hand has rubbished these claims, saying no notice was served to the owner of the property. He confirmed that he has filed a counter complaint against Mustafa.
