Chennai: Leading the Opposition charge against the AIADMK now is DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin who has been openly aggressive. From power and water shortage to corruption, he has been hitting out at the AIADMK on all fronts. Not content with the sound bytes and social networking site posts, the DMK treasurer even tours the state more than twice a week. He almost stepped into his father’s shoes by penning an open letter to OPS.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Congress president held an anti-AIADMK rally and petitioned the Governor against the AIADMK regime. Elangovan was the first to rake up engineer Muthukumarasamy death case, which resulted in minister Agri Krishnamurthy’s arrest. With his daily statements, PMK founder Dr Ramadoss and BJP state president Tamizhisai Soudararajan have left the AIADMK’s cup of woes overflowing. MDMK, VCK and Puthiya Tamizhagam and a few fledgling outfits also train their guns on the AIADMK these days.
Writer and political commentator Arunan says they might be in the mentality that they can go it alone like in 2014 but the reality is changing. The DMK is desperate to forge an alliance and hence the immediate acceptance of Vijayakanth idea to go to Delhi.
When asked, an AIADMK senior said the phenomenon is temporary and it will change once the court verdict in the Bengaluru case is out. “If favourable (which we pray) they will come to us and there will be early polls or even a few fence sitters like Vasan’s TMC will also join us. There is no unity in the Opposition. PMK felt the jitters when Vijayakanth met Karunanidhi. This is just an opportunistic union,” he added.
