Kozhikode: St. Joseph's Devagiri College was leading the points table in the onstage events in the inter-zone fest held on the Calicut University campus.

Farook College was just behind Devagiri with 66 points and Government Victoria College, Palakkad, was third with 48 points, when 48 events were completed  on Monday.

Earlier, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala expressed happiness over the Calicut University hosting the  festival after a gap of five years. Inaugurating the onstage events, the  minister said the university had come a long way in  development.

“The distribution of degree certificates within three days is an example that shows the development of the university,” he said.

The fest is being conducted using the funds raised by the university union as the university authorities had failed to grant the funds in advance. Till last year, the university used to release the funds in advance.

Around 4,000 students from 200 colleges participate in the six-day arts fest. Competitions for about 160 items are held in four stages on the campus. The arts fest started on Saturday with offstage events and will end on Wednesday.
