THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has welcomed the Government’s eviction drive in the capital city but criticized its failure to clear big encroachments in Idukki and other places.

He said that the LDF Government had launched a massive drive against big sharks but the Government and AG were hand in glove, weakening the legal battle against encroachers.

The opposition leader hailed the officials who had taken stringent action against encroachers in some parts of the Capital to clear the drainage system that had been blocked in various places.

Mr Achuthanandan said that while the government was acting tough against small encroachers, “its knees shivered when it came to big ones”. He said that the UDF Government had turned a blind eye to the massive encroachments taking place in the hill districts particularly in Idukki and other areas of the state.
