Plea filed against Telangana Kalabharathi
He urged the court to set aside the GO and declare the action of the government as illegal
Hyderabad: Indira Park Walkers Association represented by its president Dr A. Sudhakar Rao Yadav moved the Hyderabad High Court challenging the decision of the Telangana government to construct Telangana Kalabharati on the 14-acre NTR stadium in the city.
He submitted that the Telangana government had issued this order (G.O.Ms.No.73, MA & UD (F2) Department) on April 23, 2015 directing the GHMC to hand over the stadium to the department of culture for the purpose of constructing Telangana Kalabharati.
He told the court that his association alone has 5,600 members who come to Indira Park regularly and they also use the NTR stadium for walking, jogging, yoga, meditation. He said taking away this open stadium would result in depriving scores of people of their lung space.
He brought to the notice of the court that the NTR Stadium being located in the midst of lower middle class and middle class colonies has been catering to needs of children of the residents.
There are seven primary and government high schools around this stadium and the students of these schools have no playground except the stadium.
He contended that the decision of the government is in violation of Section 148 (2) and (3) of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955 besides being contrary to the Acquisition and Disposal of Properties Rules guiding the GHMC functioning. He urged the court to set aside the GO and declare the action of the government as illegal.
