Suicide bid at N Chandrababu Naidu’s meet
40-year-old farmer decided to end his life by consuming pesticide in presence of CM
Visakhapatnam: Probably taking a cue from Rajasthani farmer Gajendra Singh, who had committed suicide at the AAP rally last month in Delhi, a farmer from Vizianagaram district attempted suicide during a public meeting being addressed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday.
The farmer, D. Ramu, 40, from Chinaboghili village of Seethanagaram mandal in Vizianagaram district, was allegedly upset with the local revenue staff for delaying the release of money under the state government’s farm loan waiver scheme.
He had decided to end his life by consuming pesticide in the presence of the Chief Minister at the Neeru Chettu programme at Narsipuram village of Parvathipuram mandal.
Ramu came rushing to the front row, shouting slogans against the revenue staff, and consumed pesticide in front of the Chief Minister, labour minister K. Atchennaidu, rural development minister K. Mrunalini, MLAs and bureaucrats.
Police and other district administration staff immediately rushed Ramu to the Parvathipuram area hospital. “His condition is stable and he is now recovering. He is out of danger,” said district medical and health officer U. Swarajya Lakshmi.
