Hyderabad divided into ‘Swachh units’

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will receive investments of Rs 1 lakh crore from industries, generating employment for thousands if the city has infrastructure and sanitation. 
If the city of Surat can be cleaned up, why not Hyderabad, asked Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao during the Swachh Hyderabad orientation programme held in the city on Wednesday.
 
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been divided into 400 compact geographical units, known as Swachh units, of 1-2 sq.km, with four to five colonies each. An additional 25 Swachh units of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board will also be taken up. 
 
Each Swachh unit will be adopted by a minister, /IAS/IPS/ IFS officers, called patron or mentor, who will lead the campaign involving local people. Each unit will also be managed by a team comprising the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation  nodal officer, police official, a Water Board official, bill collector, sanitary field assistants and sanitation workers. The Swachh Hyderabad programme will be launched on May 16 and will continue till May 20.
 
An awareness campaign through various media advertisements, hoardings, jingles, television scrolling, cinema slides etc. will be taken up and action orientation in terms of immediate removal of garbage and debris and taking up repairs will be carried out. 
 
Segregation of waste by using dustbins of two different colours at the household level will also begin from May 16. Lifting of garbage and debris by regular and additional vehicles, minor repairs of drains, footpaths, manholes and so on and so forth will be done by instant mobile repair teams.
 
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation  has set up control rooms at zonal offices and at the head office in addition to the 24X7 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation call centre 21 11 11 11. Meanwhile, in order to simplify and streamline reporting, a special mobile app and a Web-based reporting system has also been developed.
