HyderabadThe Telangana state government has done quite a bit of tinkering with the list of recognised Other Backward Classes in the state after the bifurcation. However, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority for IITs and NITs insist it will not consider the Telangana state list of OBC Non-Creamy Layer for reservation in the prestigious institutions, but only go by the Andhra Pradesh list for both the states.

The TS government had added a few castes under the OBC list and deleted certain castes recognised in coastal Andhra Pradesh. However, in a reply to student queries, the JoSAA said that it has not received any separate OBC NCL list for TS till Tuesday and so the existing AP list will only be considered while providing the 27 per cent reservations in prestigious institutions like the IITs, NITs and other central institutions.

The TS government had issued a Government Order in March 2015 with the list of castes eligible to be recognised as Backward Classes. The government had deleted several castes whose people hailed from coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Some castes also found recognition as OBCs in TS after the GO was issued. In response to students’ queries if they will get reservation in JoSAA central counselling under the OBC category since the TS government had issued orders, the JoSAA said it will only go by the Andhra Pradesh list. “We will be using the same list as that for Andhra Pradesh for Telangana also.
