Hyderabad engineer cancels marriage after salary gets delayed in Dubai
He earns 6,500 dirham (Rs 1,13,644) per month
Dubai: A 30-year-old Indian was forced to call off his marriage allegedly after not being paid by his employer for over seven months.
Mohammad Abdul Khadeer from Hyderabad, who works as an electrical engineer, was scheduled to tie the knot this month but cancelled his wedding due to lack of money.
"I had no other option but to do this (call off wedding)," Khadeer was quoted as saying by the Gulf News.
He earns 6,500 dirham (Rs 1,13,644) per month and was last time paid 3,500 dirham in October last year.
Khareed said he had to borrow almost Rs 6,00,000 from private money lenders in India to make advance payments for his sister's wedding.
"I have not been paid a penny since barring the odd instances when my plea for some money was met with a few hundred dirhams couple of times. All I was told instead was to wait (for salaries)," says Khadeer, adding that loan sharks are hounding his family everyday and threatening to stop even his sister's marriage.
On April 20, Khadeer filed a complaint against his employers in the labour court.
