TV channel’s 3G kit stolen from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station

Cops said the cameras in the station were not functioning

Hyderabad: Thieves stole the 3G kit belonging to a regional news channel at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) in Afzalgunj in the early hours on Thursday.

In a shocking revelation, police found that none of the surveillance cameras at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station in Afzalgunj have been functioning since a week.

Afzalgunj police said that Bhaskar who works as a state bureau staff reporter for a regional news channel (10 TV) came to cover the RTC bus strike at MGBS on Thursday morning along with other staffers including video camera person.

They said that between 6:45 am and 7:10 am they left the kit on the platforms between 32 and 40 and that some people stole the 3G kit and fled the spot. The kit is estimated to be cost around Rs 15 lakh.

Based on Bhaskar’s complaint, a theft case was booked. Cops said the cameras in the station were not functioning. “During the investigation to trace the culprits we checked the surveillance cameras installed on the station premises but none were functioning including the one at the place of the theft,” said Afzalgunj sub-inspector G. Chandrashekar.

'“We checked with the authorities and we found that the surveillance cameras had stopped functioning a week ago,” the official added.
