Waylaying robbers push man to death

On seeing blood oozing from his head, the trio fled the scene

Chennai: A 40-year-old staff of a cable network agency in Mogappair was pushed to death by three men who allegedly attempted to waylay him on Thursday evening.

The deceased, D. Murugavel, is a native of Sriperumbudur, in Kancheepuram district. He worked as a collection agent at Sornalakshmi cable network near the Mogappair bus terminus, the police said.

Murugavel also stayed in the same office. On Thursday, around 6 pm, he was walking back to his office after collecting money from customers when the incident took place.

Investigations revealed that he was at 6th block, 8th street in Mogappair (West) when the trio intercepted him. They were said to be in drunk when they accosted Murugavel.

They picked up quarrel with him and demanded he part with the cash bag. When Murugavel resisted, the trio pushed him down. In the impact, Murugavel suffered injuries at the back of his head.

On seeing blood oozing from his head, the trio fled the scene, the police said. Locals moved Murugavel to a private hospital at Anna Nagar where he was declared brought dead.

The Nolambur police registered a case and shifted his body to Kilpauk medical college hospital for post-mortem. A hunt is on for the three persons.
