Police nab gang, seize firearm

It was planning armed robberies in the city

Hyderabad: The police nabbed a four-member gang which was planning armed robberies in the city. The gang had procured a firearm and were planning snatchings and burglaries, cops said. 
 
The arrested men are Keshavagari Ravi Kiran alias Ravi, 21, a BCom graduate and resident of Chintal Basthi in Khairatabad, Upparaji Bharath Kumar, 22, a BTech graduate and resident of Kushaiguda, Pinreddy Prasad Reddy, 22, a labourer at NFC and resident of V.N. Reddy Nagar and Pulapally Bhagirath, 21, a resident of Gokulnagar.
 
Police said that after an alert they intercepted a car at Kushaiguda and frisked the passengers. The team found a 7.65 mm pistol and a knife. They were taken into custody and interrogation revealed that Ravi Kiran who is working at Toll Gate came in contact with Ajay, a native of Bihar and purchased a pistol for Rs 1.6 lakh. Ravi paid Rs 1.3 lakh and kept Rs 30,000 pending for the rounds.
 
“Ravi Kiran’s friend Bagirath introduced his close friends Prasad Reddy and Bharath Kumar. They planned to commit robberies in Cyberabad. Prasad Reddy had an extramarital affair with a woman and also plotted to kill her husband with the pistol. Bharath was planning to threaten a person from whom he borrowed money,” police said.
 
The prime accused Ajay who went to Patna to get the rounds is absconding. A team has been deputed to nab him. A knife, a 7.65 mm pistol, five mobile phones and a Maruti Swift car were seized.
