As Jyothika is all set for her comeback to films, the actress talks about her excitement and how the film impressed her.

“I am very excited. Everyone has given me a warm welcome. 36 Vayadhinile is a path-breaking film,” said Jyothika with her characteristic bubbliness.

Talking about how the decision came about, she says, “36 Vayadhinile was not a part of my agenda. One day, Suriya brought home a DVD of the Malayalam film How Old Are You.

Suriya put the DVD on the table and said, ‘Jo, you should watch this movie: It is a hit Malayalam film, and I think you should think of remaking it in Tamil’. It just lay there for four days. When I finally saw it, I was floored. I immediately decided that this will be my comeback film.” She said that the theme had impressed her a lot. “It is about a woman, but intended for a male audience. I want the message to reach all men,” she says.

Jyothika says that she never regretted quitting films. “No, it wasn’t difficult for me. I believe in the theory that for a woman, there is a season for everything. I knew when I would call it a day when I set foot in the film industry. Marriage, family and children were my long cherished desires,” she says.

Family clearly is still Jo’s priority. “I became a part of Suriya’s family comfortably because they are wonderful people. They are very supportive and give me my own space. Suriya is my entire world, and everything revolves around him. He is a very good friend to me. He is generous with his appreciation and I consider that the backbone of a great marriage. He gives me a lot of space and freedom and is proud of my comeback. That is why he decided to make the film under his own banner, 2D Entertainment.”

Talking about her children, she says, “I wanted to give security to my children. I have always felt that children should not be left by themselves at home. I take them out regularly to family functions and birthday parties.”

Talking about her best onscreen pairings, Jo jumps excitedly even before the query was complete, “Barring Rajini and Kamal who should not be compared with others, it is Suriya without a doubt who tops the list (laughs).”
