Nellore: An ailing elderly widow was abandoned by her sons in the Sangam village on Saturday. The 70-year-old woman, identified as Annem Ramanamma, has four sons and one daughter. Her husband had passed away nearly a decade ago.
All her children are well off and some of her grandchildren are state or Central government employees. However, no one wants to take care of Ramanamma, who had worked hard all her life to raise her kids. Problems started for Ramanamma when her sons started fighting among themselves about who should take care of the old woman.
The conflict escalated after Ramanamma became bed-ridden following a leg injury about 10 days ago. Her youngest son, who had been taking care of her for a long time, criticised his brothers for ignoring their responsibility towards their mother.
After heated arguments, the four sons carried her in a cot to the police station in Sangam. They wanted the police to resolve the complex issue. Moved by the plight of the woman, Sangam sub-inspector Srinivas Vijay said that he would get her admission in an old age home and file a case against her children if they failed to take her responsibility.
