Inspections stun colleges in Telangana
JNTU teams check tech colleges
Hyderabad: JNTU Hyderabad has surprised private engineering colleges by beginning inspections before TS Eamcet. Inspections were expected to begin once the TS Eamcet is over on May 14 but the university started the exercise almost five days early catching engineering colleges off guard.
This time the university will display details regarding the infrastructure and faculty of each college found during inspections on a portal. This year inspections will be conducted only by JNTU Hyderabad faculty and not by a panel of experts from institutions like BITS Pilani Hyderabad and IIT Hyderabad as was the case last year. Inspections will go on till the first week of June.
“We want to finish the inspections as early as possible as the Supreme Court has set deadlines for counselling and admissions for engineering courses,” a senior JNTU Hyderabad official said.
The government will also display inspection reports on a portal for students. “We will display details about infrastructure, faculty and buildings. We will even show the brand of the equipments and their numbers,” the official said. JNTU Hyderabad has already made last year’s inspection reports public.
Meanwhile, the early inspections have surprised colleges. “They inspected only a few engineering colleges. It seemed like a move to surprise managements. They may resume checks after Eamcet again,” an engineering college owner said.
