Green flag for metro rail, other projects after Jayalaithaa’s acquittal
Global Investors Meet, which had been postponed, is expected to be fast tracked now
Chennai: Several projects, including the prestigious Chennai metro rail, which were awaiting inauguration, may now see the light of the day with AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa all set to become the Chief Minister again.
Besides the inauguration of various projects, the Global Investors Meet (GIM), which had been postponed, is expected to be fast tracked now.
A full fledged Assembly session is also expected after she adorn’s the Chief Minister’s chair.
The CMRL which was initially planning to commence its operations in The Commissioner of Railway Safety who inspected the metro line between Koyambedu and Ashok Nagar had given clearance for commercial operation. Official sources said only some minor works remained to be completed.
The much publicised GIM was postponed to September following foreign investors’ demand for holding the event after the summer. But Opposition parties had then charged that the conference was being delayed in view of the case before the Karnataka high court.
Several new Amma Canteen buildings constructed in the city following increased patronage for the facility, may be thrown open to the public in the coming days.
On the public transport front, over 300 new buses, belonging to various state transport corporations, need to be flagged off.
The CPI (M) legislature party leader A. Soundararajan said most of the projects completed after September last year awaited inauguration.
“Not only projects, the Assembly which usually will debate allocation for all departments after the budget is presented, has been postponed,” he noted.
