ADGP finds no proof to nail IG TJ Jose, moots CB probe
It was also decided to shift Mr Jose from the post of Thrissur IG
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a relief to T. J. Jose, the IG caught up in a copying controversy, ADGP (North-Zone) N. Shankar Reddy, who conducted a preliminary inquiry, has concluded that prima facie there was no evidence against him.
The invigilators did not recover any material used for cheating in exam and an evaluation of his answer paper by an expert suggested there was no signs of it.
Based on the the ADGP’s commendation, DGP K. S. Balasubramanian ordered a detailed probe by the Crime Branch.
It was also decided to shift Mr Jose from the post of Thrissur IG. He was asked to go on a long leave and his charge was given to Sureshraj Purohit following the controversy.
Mr Jose was reportedly caught copying from photocopy of a textbook by the invigilator at St. Paul’s College in Kalamassery during the LLM annual exam on Constitutional Law on May 4.
The ADGP gave clean chit to him mainly considering two aspects:
The invigilators did not recover any material used for copying though they claimed that the textbook photocopy was hidden in his handkerchief and they failed to explain why they could not do it.
The IG maintained that it was his hall ticket in the handkerchief. As per the ADGP’s request, Kozhikode Government Law College principal-in-charge Kumaran Chalapurathu-veettil had evaluated an attested copy of his five-sheet answer paper.
He reported that there was no signs of copying from any printed material in any part of the answer sheets as there were many factual errors and grammatical mistakes.
Based on them, Mr Reddy concluded that prima faice there were no evidence of copying and suggested a detailed probe by quizzing others who were in the examination hall.
In his statement to the ADGP, Mr Jose said he had exposed many irregularities in the MG University during his earlier tenure as the university vigilance officer and in order to settle scores some university officials spread the false information.
