HD Kumaraswamy to prepare ‘People’s Agenda’ for future Bengaluru
He has convened an apolitical meeting on Sunday to prepare the agenda
Bengaluru: JD(S) state president H.D. Kumaraswamy has decided to prepare a ‘People's Agenda’ for the future of Bengaluru to save its greenery and water bodies, and to make it a better place to live in.
He has convened an apolitical meeting on Sunday and has invited freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy, former Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde, IISc scientists, NGO representatives and others to elicit their opinion to prepare the agenda.
Confirming the meeting, Mr Kumaraswamy said that since successive governments have failed to set an agenda for the city, he is preparing one and will voice the opinions of Bengalureans in implementing the agenda.
“This is an apolitical meeting, and I will not sit on the dais. Members from all political parties, legislators and common people will be invited for the meeting, where they can air their opinions. There is no need for political speeches. We will elicit the opinion of the public and prepare the agenda for the city,” he said.
“When I visited the victims of lakebed demolition on Tuesday, I realised that more lakes are being encroached and that will pose threat to the city in the future. Officials are letting untreated sewage into lakes and dumping solid waste in them. In the long run, these lakes would also be encroached,” he alleged.
