Vizhinjam board meet set to discuss Adani bid on port

The meeting will be chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy

Vizhinjam international port is the first port project in the country to get a Rs 800 crore approval for viability gap funding.

Thiruvananthapuram: The board of directors of the Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) will  meet here on  Wednesday to discuss the bid submitted by Adani Ports to  develop  the Rs 4,089- crore  project through public-private partnership.  VISL  CEO A.S. Suresh Babu told Deccan Chronicle that this was the second stage of the project clearance.

The meeting will be  chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Mr Babu said. The first stage of the project clearance was completed with the empowered committee headed by the chief secretary approving the Adani group tender, the only one received for the project.  

The process would be final ised only after the Cabinet gives its nod to go ahead with the project, Mr Babu said.

Only the Cabinet can take a policy decision on approving the maximum eligible grant of 40 percent above the project amount sought by the Adani Ports, which would come to around Rs 1,635 crore.
