Kochi: Stormy days are in store for the city corporation as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is launching series of protests against the alleged corruption and mismanagement ahead of polls.

CPM central committee member A. Vijayaraghavan will inaugurate an Opposition siege to the corporation office on May 15.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, CPM councillor and opposition leader in the council K. J. Jacob alleged that the UDF rule was a total failure.

“The civic authorities have completely ignored the west Kochi areas and all the projects promised for west Kochi residents remain on paper. Except the projects that were commissioned during the LDF regime, nothing happened during these five years,” he said.

Even after the Piravom drinking water project, which started during LDF rule, has been completed it is yet to be commissioned. The civic administration, which has been sitting on many long-drawn project proposals, caused revenue losses to the tune of Rs 5 crore through the scam related to the display of advertisements on street lamp posts.

“Even the UDF councillors admitted corruption in the recent Reliance 4G cable laying and providing occupancy certificates to unauthorised skyscrapers. The mayor is taking a stand which is helpful to the Emerald Hotel despite a court order against the illegal structure,” he alleged.
