Renovation starts at Kanakakunnu palace

The Nishagandhi auditorium will also be renovated

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A new children’s park, renovated lawns and benches, steps and pavements and  attractive lamps are the main components of the beautification of Kanakakunnu Palace premises that began on Wednesday.

The renovation will be carried out while protecting the architectural integrity of the palace as well as in a nature-friendly manner. The Nishagandhi auditorium will also be renovated.

The Kerala Land Development Corporation (KLDC) which is carrying out the work at an estimated cost of Rs 3.05 crore plans to complete it by August.

“Kanakakunnu palace has always been an attraction for tourists as well as the locals of Thiruvananthapuram. Renovating it is a good initiative by the government,” said Prakash, a regular visitor.

Tourism minister A.P. Anilkumar inaugurated the work. K. Muralidharan MLA, mayor K. Chandrika and KLDC chairman Benny Kakkad were also present.
