Coimbatore: After City cops had removed an illegal flex board put up at Ukkadam following the intervention of social activist 'traffic' Ramaswamy a week ago, the civic body has on its part collected a fine from the violators. “The flex board was put up by two AIADMK workers Abbas and Yusuf. As the board was placed illegally, we summoned them to the corporation office and collected a fine of Rs 750,” said a corporation official.

The move comes after traffic Ramasamy threatened to move the court if the violators are not punished as per law. During his visit to Coimbatore on May 4, Ramasamy and his men attempted to remove a flex board near the Ukkadam police station triggering tension. This led to a war of words between the social activist and AIADMK party men, who had put up the banner.

Finally the Ukkadam police intervened and removed the banner from the spot. Later KR Subash, state deputy general secretary of the Makkal Pathugapu Kazhagam also handed over a complaint, on behalf of Ramaswamy to Ukkadam police against two AIADMK men with regard to placing the banner. The civic body is also likely to swoop down on the illegal banners, which have mushroomed in several parts of the city.
