Hyderabad: The Southwest monsoon will most likely set in over southern parts of AP like Chittoor and Nellore on June 4 and over the southern parts of Telangana on June 6.

“It is most likely that the Southwest monsoon will touch the northern parts of Telangana around June 10,” said IMD director Y.K. Reddy said. The onset of the Southwest monsoon over Kerala, which signals the arrival of monsoon, was most likely to be on May 30. Last year, the monsoon arrived late, on June 6.

According to the IMD report, enhanced convection and increased rainfall activity has been observed over the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea during the past few days and conditions are becoming favourable for advance of Southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and adjoining sea areas during the next 3-4 days.

A forecast of less rain than usual is, however, worrying farmers already. “We will not be able to say right now what will be the percentage of deficit in AP and Telangana states,” Mr Reddy said.
