As you walk into Sutradhar’s work space, huddled up in a circle are participants of the Khoj workshop. From a Class IX student to a HR professional to a psychotherapist, participants of the workshop come from different backgrounds. Yet when they step into the room, egos and age differences are set aside. And as the name of the workshop suggests, it’s not about theatre but “a journey of self discovery”.
Mother-daughter duo Minakshi (an IT consultant) and Anusha Choudhary registered for the body language and voice workshop together. Minakshi says, “This workshop is helping us be more self aware. Often we talk to people but our body language is completely different from what we are trying to say. By attending this workshop, we are trying to create a sync between what we say and how we say it. It’s more like a self exploration workshop.”
Class IX student Ronit Agarwal, says, “I joined the workshop to be more confident. I am a shy person and here, I’m being able to open up to people easily.” HR professional Sanjay Ratha, meanwhile, says this will help him perform better at work. “My profession is such that I have to meet many people. This workshop is helping me approach people in a better way.”
There are also those for whom this is a “break”. Sujata Potay, a psychotherapist, says, “I felt like my job was making me too serious. So, this is fun for me... I’m interacting with people who are not my clients.”
The participants look forward to the 6.30 am workshop every day. “Everyone is equal here and there are no ego clashes. They are given exercises where they have to imagine incidents and express themselves accordingly. For example, in a split second they have to show how they would react if a six-inch nail went into their left heel,” says mentor Vinay Varma.
