Chennai: A 26-year-old supervisor at a private fertility clinic was stabbed to death inside the premises on 100 feet road in Vadapalani in full public view over a suspected illicit affair. The victim, A. Prakash, a native of Vandavasi, resided at MGR Nagar here, and was in charge of housekeeping at the clinic for the past one-and-a-half years, the police said. On Friday morning, a man who suspected his wife to be having an affair with Prakash, stabbed him.

Investigations revealed that Shivakumar’s wife was working as a housekeeping staff in the clinic for the past 10 months until recently she quit her job on Shivakumar’s insistence. “Shivakumar, who learnt about the suspected affair, warned both of them, and asked his wife to resign from the job. The woman resigned two weeks ago,” said an investigating officer.

On Thursday night, Shivakumar caught his wife talking over phone with Prakash after which the husband and wife engaged in an argument. “He even called up his mother-in-law Muthulakshmi and told her to take her daughter away. Muthulakshmi, too, works as housekeeping staff in the same fertility clinic,” the officer said.

Following Thursday’s altercation with his wife, Shivakumar went to the clinic around 11.30 am on Friday and asked Prakash to come for a talk. He then stabbed him repeatedly on his chest, even as a few patients and other attendants ran for cover. Shivakumar was caught by the security guards and handed over to the Vadapalani police.
