Hyderabad: The summer this year has been relatively pleasant, with occasional rains and cloud cover bringing the mercury down every time it soared. On Friday, too, the temperatures dropped at several places in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema due to an upper air trough running across Telangana and Rayalaseema. Light to moderate rainfall occurred at isolated places in Hyderabad and in both the states.

“The upper air trough runs from Chhattisgarh to Lakshadweep, across Telangana and Rayalaseema and extends up to 2.1 km above sea level,” the IMD report said. In Andhra Pradesh, only Kurnool (40.1ºC) recorded a temperature above 40ºC and in Telangana, Ramagundam recorded 40ºC.

Due to the rains, the mercury at Nizamabad, which was hovering at around 42ºC till May 12, fell to 36ºC on Friday. In Nizamabad, Varni recorded 4cm rain, Rudrur(a) 3cm, Jukkal 3 cm, and Boath of Adilabad recorded rainfall of 3cm.

Medak, Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts too recorded isolated light rainfall. In AP, rains lashed Puttur (6cm) of Chittoor district. Tirupati, Sambepalle in Kadapa and Veligandla in Prakasam also received rains.

Meanwhile, Met officials issued a “heavy rainfall warning” for Coastal AP for the next five days. On Saturday, heavy rain had been predicted at isolated places in Anantapur, Kurnool, Kadapa and Chittoor of Rayalaseema and in the districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of Coastal AP. As per Met forecast, moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at a few places over Telangana on Saturday and Sunday.
