We persuaded family members to stop the wedding,” she said.
The girl, who had studied up to class 9, and her neighbour Sathish Kumar, a daily wage labourer, were in love. The girl’s father passed away a few years ago and her mother was making a living working as a coolie. The girl’s mother told the cops that she decided get her daughter married to avoid a possible elopement.
After police intervention, the woman had given in writing to the cops that she would get her daughter married only after she attains the age of 18 and the girl, for her part, told the cops that she will wait until then to marry the same man.
