Hyderabad: The Telangana Joint Action Committee, headed by Prof. Kodandaram, highlighted the injustice meted out to TS staff working in 108 services. He said that many TS employees were sacked for no reason.

“While officers hail from the Andhra region, the staff working under them belong to Telangana. These officers force the staff to work for 12 to 15 hours per day without paying proper salaries. If employees questions them they are sacked ruthlessly. Hundreds of Telangana employees have been sacked so far for no reason. The management adopts a feudal, inhuman policy against staff and there is no point in tolerating this in Telangana. We demand that the government remove GVK and take over 108 services immediately in the interests of Telangana,” he said.

When the entire funds for 108 are borne by the government, there is no point in allowing GVK to work as per their fancies, Prof. Kodandaram said.

The Chief Minister, too, is said to be upset with the functioning of the GVK Group ever since it stopped 108 services abruptly in October 2014 severely affecting common people, citing non-release of government funds. Mr Rao, who became furious, summoned GVK officials to the Secretariat and warned of dire consequences if they failed to restore services immediately. The funds for 108 are borne by the government and the GVK group offers only technical and logistic support.

The reason for Mr Rao’s anger was that the arrears pertain to undivided Andhra Pradesh for the months of April and May 2014 and though the Telangana government was releasing funds regularly after Telangana was formed in June 2014, the GVK group abruptly stopped 108 services without approaching the government.

At that time, information technology minister K.T. Rama Rao also warned the GVK group that the government will take over 108 services.

The agitating employees also met health minister C. Laxma Reddy demanding takeover of 108 services. He told them that the Chief Minister was already apprised of the situation in the GVK group and he would soon take a “right decision.”

Mr Reddy said, “We have received complaints from TS employees on the injustice being meted to them. The CM has been apprised of the situation and he will take a decision soon.”
