HyderabadThe NDA will initiate a major publicity campaign from May 26 on the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government’s one-year performance across India. This was disclosed by Union parliamentary affairs minister and senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu at a media conference on Sunday.

“Our government, during its one-year rule, has made some outstanding progress in many areas which has not been recognised by the Opposition. Instead, they are making some adverse comments. That' is why we have decided to launch a week-long campaign to let people know about their government,” Mr Venkaiah Naidu said.

Speaking to media, the Union minister lauded the efforts of the TRS government in taking up Swachh Hyderabad and Swachh Telangana programmes in a grand manner. Coming down heavily on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for making adverse comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government alleging negligence towards problems faced by farmers, the senior BJP leader said it would have been better for Mr Gandhi to check facts before taking out his ‘Rythu bharosa’ yatra.

“Where were you during 10 year UPA rule? Why did you not take up any bharosa yatra for the farmers then? Why do you want to politicise the issue now? Since when have you discovered that farmers work under hot sun?” Mr Venkaiah Naidu asked. He said Mr Gandhi’s yatra to Nirmal looked like a picnic and a walkathon which was not really interested to know the problems of farmers.

Quoting the report of National Crime Bureau, he said records show that there were 1.6 lakh farmers suicides during the 10-year-rule of UPA. “UPA had decided to provide compensation to crops only if there was 50 per cent loss. Prime Minister Modi reduced that to 33 per cent. UPA had announced Rs 1.2 lakh as ex gratia in all the suicide cases. We increased that to Rs 4 lakh. However, Mr Gandhi is still holding us responsible. I advice him to get his facts right before making allegations. It is better if he changes his script writter,” Mr Venkaiah said.
