New Delhi: The ongoing hostilities over the appointment of an acting Delhi chief secretary further escalated on Sunday with chief minister Arvind Kejriwal launching a direct tirade against Shakuntala Gamlin, accusing her of working with power distribution companies, and alleged that her appointment was aimed at toppling the AAP government.

“We opposed the appointment of the CS, but the Modi government appointed her. We have been struggling for the last four days, but Modi’s government wanted to make the Delhi government fail,” the AAP chief said while speaking at the ‘Auto Samwaad’ public meeting at Burari in North Delhi.

Expressing apprehensions that Ms Gamlin’s appointment raised suspicions, the Delhi CM claimed that the Centre would do something ‘wrong’ in 10 days, and that he would continue to keep a tab on the CS. Without naming the officer, Mr Kejriwal claimed, a power department secretary had asked the power minister to sign a paper which she claimed to be a “comfort letter” for a loan being taken by the power companies from the banks.

“It was a guarantee towards a Rs 11,000-crore loan being taken by Delhi power companies. If the power companies had failed to repay the loan, the residents of Delhi would have to bear the burden as the electricity tariff would have increased by two to three times,” he said.

While minister of state Kiren Rijiju termed the entire episode as “character assassination of an NE IAS officer, Ex-Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit said an “atmosphere of confrontation” will be created, if there is no coordination between the L-G and the Chief Minister.
