Micromax Yuphoria launched at Rs 6,999
YUphoria features an 8MP rear and 5MP front camera
YUphoria, the latest smart phone from Yu, the brand from Micromax that is powered by the Cyanogen OS, is the first metal-body device in India available for less than Rs. 10,000. YUphoria is assembled entirely in India. The various metal processes like stamping, laser welding, and laser etching, are inspired by the automotive and premium watch manufacturing industries and introduced in mobile phones for the first time. The antenna of this smart phone is welded into the metal frame to enhance reception quality, even in congested areas.
The smartphone features a 5 inches screen, with a full HD display, 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, 1.2GHz quad core processor, with 2GB RAM and 16GB memory. The screen is finger-print resistant fully laminated Gorilla Glass. YUphoria features an 8MP rear and 5MP front camera. The rear camera is supposed to resemble a ‘Saturn ring’ that sits in the middle of the back panel.
The device operates on Cyanogen OS version 12, built on Android Lollipop. Cyanogen incidentally is the crowd sourced OS built on the Android platform. The user interface is not dramatically different from regular Android phones, but YUphoria comes with a few interesting features like App Themer, where compatible apps adopt the look and feel of your resident theme. It is sensor rich, boasting an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor, 6-axis Gyroscope and an electronic compass.
YUphoria is priced at Rs. 6,999, from May 28. The ‘metal’ components of this phone is nowhere close to premium metal smart phones in the market, but at the asking price, the 5 inch YUphoria is a pocket-sized wonder and value for money.
