Chod do aanchal zamana kya kahega, a popular Hindi classic remixed by Neeraj Sridhar of Bombay Vikings was an instant hit in 2004. The remixed video shows a beautiful girl prancing in a classic black and white tone. That was the first look of Kamna Jethmalani, who has since, made her filmi debut down south, a year after she was featured in the hit video.
After a decade in the film industry, the versatile actress is on a post-wedding break. She is now awaiting her third Kannada release Chandrika. The bi-lingual movie (made in Telugu and Kannada) is directed by Yogesh, and her co-star is Karthik, who is popularly known as JK.
In an exclusive interview to DC, the actress talks about her latest Sandalwood venture and her future plans. “Firstly, I do not consider Chandrika as a comeback film, as the release was delayed. It has been a great experience working for Chandrika, and most importantly, I am portraying the role of a classical dancer. I will be seen, for the first in a full-fledged role as a dancer. In fact, there was very little time for me to practice Kathak for the film, but I managed it as I knew the basics of this dance,” says Kamna.
The actress, who is presently on a vacation post her marriage says, “After working for almost a decade as an actress, I hardly took a break. So, I decided to take a break for a little more than a year after my marriage.” Kamna chose not to talk about her marriage to businessman Suraj Nagpal in August as she didn’t want to make it public, stressing that marriage was her private domain.
Kamna who shares her surname with politician and senior advocate Ram Jethmalani is often asked if she is related to him. Kamna says, “Yes, Mr Ram Jethmalani is my relative — one of my grandfather’s brothers.” During her graduation years, the actress aspired to become an interior designer, but she chose to become an actress as she was comfortable working in front of the camera. “After working in several TV commercials, I got offers down South. In fact, the director of my debut Telugu film Premikulu, approached my parents and convinced them to allow me to act. Thereafter, acting has been and will be my main forte,”she adds.
Kamna describes the genre of Chandrika, as a horror-thriller. “The entire team was good. The director is very soft spoken, and there was good atmosphere during the shoot, and working with JK was good too. He is one of the handsome actors currently,” says the charming actress.
