Bengaluru: Six stranded at Chunchi Falls rescued, bodies yet to be fished out

BENGALURU: The fire department rescued six people who were stranded at Chunchi Falls, where they had gone for an excursion. But the bodies of the two women, who were washed away in the water, are yet to be fished out.
The deceased have been identified as Shalini (18) and her cousin Malini (21). Shalini had completed her second PU, while Malini was working as a fashion designer is a garment factory. They had gone to the falls along with their relatives, Sanjay, Santosh, Tejas, Bhavana and Bharat, on Saturday evening.

All were residents of Ittamadu near Katriguppe in the city. The police said that all of them had gone to celebrate Sanjay’s 19th birthday. They had told their parents that they were going to a temple, but had gone to Chunchi Falls at Sathanur in Kanakapura.
Malini and Shalini were washed away in the river, while five others had managed to come out and alert the police. A group of another six people, two women and four men, were stranded on a rock as they could not wade through water. Fire force personnel, who started the operation by Saturday night, managed to rescue the six by 1 am on Sunday. All the six are residents of Banashankari.
