Hyderabad: Students of Osmania University under the banner of Telangana Nirudyoga Vidyarthi JAC on Monday blocked the road near the NCC gate at the university campus, protesting Telangana CM K. Chandrashekar Rao’s statement saying 11 acres of land belonging to the university will be used for constructing houses for the poor.

The students resorted to raising slogans against the Telangana government and even burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister.

The protest resulted in a traffic jam for a while after which the police had to reach the spot for clearing the protesters from the road.

Kalyan, the chairman of the TNVJAC, said, “The university is in a dire need of attention from the government in more ways than one. There are encroachments on the university lands which need to be cleared but the Chief Minister is not bothered about any of these and is bent upon taking away lands from university’s fold. If he is that interested why is he not giving lands on which his party office is built to the poor?” There were also protests on the same issue outside the CM’s office in Secretariat.
